چکیده

In order to conduct faithful simulations of ocean circulation one needs considerable computational power and storage capabilities. We study the parallelization of a three-dimensional ocean circulation model (OCM) and provide summary results from recent experiments on the Cedar hierarchical architecture. A major goal of our effort is to obtain guidelines for the proper design of OCM codes for parallel architectures.

Status Report: Parallel Ocean Circulation on Cedar

We present recent results from the design of the GFDL ocean circulation model for the Cedar multicluster architecture. The model simulates the basic aspects of largescale, baroclinic ocean circulation, including treatment of irregular bottom topography. We concentrate on several modifications and versions of the code that are designed to exploit the memory and computational hierarchy of Cedar, ...

3D Modeling of Wind-Driven Circulation In The Northern Indian Ocean During Monsoon

Abstract The purpose of this research is to design and identify some of the natures and characteristics of high-resolution surface currents in the Northern Indian Ocean. The pattern of 3D circulation of the Wind-driven surface currents, Sea surface temperature (SST) and Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) distribution in the Northern Indian Ocean using The MIT general circulation model (MITgcm) with ho...

3-D Land Avoidance and Load Balancing in Regional Ocean Simulation

We present methods designed to enhance the performance of a parallel ocean circulation model (OCM). The underlying code is based on a primitive equations model of the Mediterranean Sea. We examine the characteristics of this basin and study the tradeoos between minimizing computations by avoiding sweeping over land areas vs. the higher computational rates achieved otherwise for a cluster based ...

Ocean Circulation on the Intel Paragon: Modeling and Implemerntation

In this paper, we present the modeling and implementation of a grand-challenge problem in the jield oj scientific computation: the Primitive-Equation Numerical Ocean Circulation Model. We present the mathematical formulation of the model and propose a scheme for its parallel implementation. Optimization8 are made through collective communications and various partitioning schemes. In our experim...
